Martha was born March 25, 1917, in Hazelton, the daughter of Adam and Wilhelmina (Redinger) Riedlinger. She grew up on a farm west of Hazelton and attended a country school. Martha was married to Clarence Sathren and the couple farmed between Linton and Temvik. In 1955, they moved to Bismarck, where Martha worked as a bookkeeper at Rausch Furniture, United Accounts, and Roberts Floral. Clarence died in Bismarck on March 27, 1980.
Martha accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and upon confession of her faith she was baptized in 1962 and joined Bismarck Baptist Church. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Fellowship in the church. She valued the relationship she had with Jesus Christ and also her relationships that she had with her family and friends. Under her guidance, her children learned how to be strong and the importance of faith. She was always giving and caring. Martha would give ladies in her neighborhood rides to church. She also styled her neighbor's and sister-in-law's hair. Her sister-in-law often said, "We need to have our graves close together so Martha can do my hair every Saturday!"
Martha was dearly loved and will be missed by family and many friends. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Audrey and Hugh Jacobson, Bismarck; her son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Arlyce Sathren, Litchfield, Minn.; her two grandchildren, Dawn Roberson, Wilton, and Justin Sathren and his fiancee, DeAnna Michaud, Maple Grove, Minn.; her great-grandchildren, Sommer Renfro and her fiance, Brian Noethlic, Brianne (Joe) Hoffman and Dane Sathren; her great-great grandson, Holden Hoffman; one sister-in-law, Lorraine Riedlinger, Sacramento, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
