The memorial service for Dr. F. Otto Schnaidt, 85, Ipswich, will be 11 am, Wednesday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, with Pastor William Lee Nelson-Loefke officiating. Military honors will be at the church by Roy S. Hickman Post Number 78. Otto died Friday, April 23, 2010 at Golden Living Center, Ipswich SD.
Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.
F. Otto Schnaidt was born on August 14, 1924, at Eureka, SD to Christian and Rosalla (Nathan) Schnaidt. The family moved to a farm in the Leola area where he grew up and attended school. After graduating from Leola High School in 1943, Otto served in the US Army for one year. He then attended Northern State College for a three year pre-dental course. He then attended Loyola Dental School in Chicago, IL, graduating in 1954 with a degree in dental surgery. Otto practiced dentistry in Leola for 22 years. He served on the school board for 16 years. In 1976, Otto moved his practice to Aberdeen. He retired in 1986. Otto continued to make Aberdeen his home.
Otto was a member of the Les Curtis Study Club and American Dental Association. He served as president of the South Dakota Dental Association for one year. Otto has been a life long member of the American Lutheran church.
Grateful for having shared Otto’s life are his brothers, Albert (Patricia) Schnaidt, Aberdeen, Merle Schnaidt, Mobridge, Larry (Marie) Schnaidt, Groton, and dear friend Judy Wilson, Aberdeen.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Lea Geffre, Adeline Slater, and brother, Rueben Schnaidt.
