Ashley, ND-Funeral service for Reinhold Retzer, 95, of Ashley will be 10:00 am, Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church at Ashley. The Rev. Adam Roberts will officiate.
Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
There will be a prayer service at 7 pm Friday with visitation from 4-7 pm at the funeral home.
Reinhold died March 4, 2013 at Ashley Nursing Home.
Reinie was born to Ludwig and Katherina (Wolff) Retzer on November 23, 1917 on the family farm, nine miles southeast of Ashley. He attended country school and worked on the farm.
He met Claudia Mettler at a barn dance in the Eureka area. They were united in marriage on October 6, 1940 at the Gleuekstal Reformed Church northeast of Eureka. They lived on the Retzer family farm until October 1967, when they sold the farm and moved to Ashley. Reinie worked for the City of Ashley in the Water Department for five years and Frisch Gravel Co. for seven years. In 1979 he began driving bus for the Ashley Public School District. He drove bus until 1991 when he retired.
He and Claudia did volunteer work for the Senior Center delivering meals on wheels. Many were welcomed and invited into their home for a good home cooked meal. Gathering with friends to play cards was a special time for both of them. He was an avid Minnesota Twins fan.
In 2003 they made the decision to sell their home and move to the Harmony Home Apartments where they resided until 2009, when they reluctantly but gracefully decided it was time to enter the Ashley Nursing Home.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church since his marriage where he had been an usher and greeter, also a member of Ashley Senior Center.
Surviving Reinhold is his wife, Claudia; two daughters, Donna (Vernon) Moos of Venturia and their children, Todd (Kristen) Moos of Napoleon, ND Kelly (Francis) Krumm of Hague, ND and Corey (Angela) Moos of Washington, NJ; Sandra (Tom) Gjerde of Pennock, MN and their children, Troy (Amanda) Gjerde and Monte Gjerde, both of Pennock; ten great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Zachary, Holly, Hope and Taylor Krumm of Hague, Tyler, Trevor and Lily Moos of Napoleon and Carly and Samuel Moos of Washington, NJ and one sister, Hulda Opp of Eureka.
His parents, five sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.
Casketbearers will be his nephews, Glenn Opp, Lewis Opp, Terry Ulrich, Gary Ulrich, Duane Retzer and Ken Retzer.
The organist will be Steve Glaesmann and there will be special music by Terry Ulrich and Reinie’s great-granddaughters, Jennifer, Holly, Hope and Taylor Krumm. There will be a reading by Corey Moos.
The family prefers memorials to Ashley Medical Center or Zion Lutheran Church.
