Theodore "Ted" Elmer Kitzman, 93, passed away, Tuesday, January 5, 2016 in Fort Morgan, Colorado. He was born May 13, 1922 to Jacob and Christina (Schmierer) Kitzman in Orchard, Colorado. Ted was one of nine children. He attended numerous schools in Weld County and graduated from the eighth grade at Prospect Valley. Ted enlisted in the United States Army Air Force on October 10, 1942. After his service he came back to Morgan County and farmed with his parents and also went to school to become a welder. Ted met his wife Clara Rohn at a dance in Hoyt. He proceeded to ask her out and wanted to know where she lived. She gave him the address of their labor house and not the address of the house they really lived in. He drove around the mile section that week looking for her house. He did finally find her house, and when he arrived for the date, her Mom told her that since she accepted the date she needed to get ready to go out. They were married December 9, 1948. Ted was a member of the American Legion in Wiggins. He also started a gun club and shooting range in Wiggins. He was a good shot. He reloaded a lot of his own ammunition. Ted was a farmer, trucker, mechanic and welder. He enjoyed playing cards but made up his own rules when he played. In his later years he liked to socialize, spend time at the senior center and help his neighbors with various things. Suvivors include, five children, Yvonne Smith (Ron) of Greeley, Ted Kitzman (Lori) of Wiggins, Marilyn Thomas (Raymond) of Wiggins, Edward Kitzman (Dorothy) of Fort Morgan, and Kenneth Kitzman (Camilla) of Wiggins; two sisters, Juanita Cowan, and Delain Phillps both of Loveland; one brother, Benjamin Kitzman (Rosie) of Loveland; thirteen grandchildren, Joe Kitzman, Charrisa Edwards (Brian), Rudy Graham (Mary), Bobbi Hergenreter (Troy), JoAnn Dirks (Bruce), Christina Thomas (Josh), Richard Thomas (Brooke), Ryan Thomas (Amanda), Clara Warffeli (Max), Jacob Kitzman (Samantha), David Kitzman, Katie Kitzman (fiancé, A J ), Adam Kitzman; 24 great-grandchildren, numrous nieces, nephews and friends. Ted was preceded in death by his wife, Clara; his parents; three grandsons, Rusty Thomas, Edward Kitzman and Matthew Kitzman; one granddaughter-in-law, Mandy Thomas (Cochran); two brothers, Harold and Elvin Kitzman; three sisters, Frieda Thomas, Rose Carlton, and Flora Zimbelman. There will be a visitation on Monday, January 11, 2016 from 5 until 7 pm at the Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 10:30 am at the Wiggins Community Church in Wiggins. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens in Fort Morgan.
