Notizen - Paul Scherer:
Note:
Born August 28, 1875 at General Rauch's place near Bersofka, Russia. He learned to be a carpenter and worked at that trade for 60 years. He left at age 14 to be an apprentice with Jacob Jahraus at Rohrback, Russia for 4 years and 7 months. He stayed with brother John's family at times until he went into the Russian Army service. He
served 3 years and 9 months. He said army life was hard. They ate hard bread. Each soldier was given a small 3 Ib loaf a day and soup was served from one large kettle with everyone dipping in with their own spoon. The soup was made of very little meat. Cabbage and some other vegetables. He whittled his own spoon from wood and Lavonne Pope Nickolaus now has it. He saved his money and loaned some to his officer and when the China Russian Boxer War broke out the officer said he'd keep him out of the war if he wouldn't collect the money loaned to him. He did this and was later discharged from the service. He then migrated to the U.S.A. He came to Sutton, Nebraska on July 4, 1901 and worked on the farm for Grosshans, then worked for the Sack Lumber Company for a dollar a day building houses and other buildings. Later he had other men work for him and they built many houses and barns and other buildings in Sutton and on farms around the town. He retired in 1951. He married Elizabeth Horst on March 31, 1902 at Sutton, Nebraska. She was born August 25, 1883 at Worms, Russia the daughter of Adam & Elizabeth medinger Horst. She died February 22, 1968. Paul died October 1, 1964. Both are buried at Sutton, Nebraska. Rudolf Scheerer - Born February 6, 1903 at Sutton
