Aberdeen - The funeral service for Edwin Walker, 90, of Aberdeen will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Harold E. Salem officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Walker died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006, at the Avera Eureka Healthcare Center.
Edwin Walker was born Sept. 27, 1916, at Fredonia, N.D., to Jacob and Rosina (Opp) Walker. At the age of 1 month, the family moved to a farm east of Eureka, S.D. He attended Long Lake Country School District #4. After his education, he remained in the area and farmed. He married Elsie Wagenmann on Nov. 13, 1938, at rural Leola, S.D. They remained in the area and farmed until 1959, when they moved to Aberdeen. Edwin became employed with the K.O. Lee Company in January of 1960 and retired from there in 1982.
Edwin was a past member of Calvary Baptist Church in Aberdeen, where he was active as a deacon, was a member of First Baptist Church, Aberdeen Senior Citizens and the Friendship Singers.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Elsie of Eureka; three sons: Larry (Melanie) Walker, Frostproof, Fla., Dennis (Margie) Walker, Long Lake, S.D., and Dale (Philamino) Walker, Prattville, Ala.; two brothers: Oliver (Julie) Walker, Calif., and Rev. Iver (Donna) Walker, St. Louis, Mo.; eight grandchildren: Rindy, Terri, Carrie, Annetra, Melissa, Dena, Corey and Lisa; 10 great-grandchildren: Nathan, Alex, Michael, Mataya, Emily, Gillian, Adam, Samantha, Kyle and Austin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, two brothers and three sisters.
