Marietta Riedel, 90, Hays, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, at her home.
She was born Jan. 20, 1918, in Hays to Paul and Christina (Bittel) Goetz.
She married Clarence E. Riedel on June 6, 1939, in Hays. He preceded her in death Dec. 1, 1993.
She was a 1936 graduate of Girl's Catholic High School. She was a clerk at McDonalds Clothing Store, Hays. She was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella, both of Hays.
Survivors include three sons, Larry Riedel and wife, Della, Scottsdale, Ariz., Dennis Riedel, Hays, and David Riedel, Lake Forest, Calif.; a daughter, Sister Mary Riedel CSA, Hays; a brother, Elmer Goetz, Hays; four grandchildren, Michael Riedel, Monica Riedel, Jason Riedel and Jennifer Hanly; and four great-grandchildren, Jack Riedel, Emmy Riedel, Josiah Hanly and Aurora Hanly.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Goetz; and two sisters, Lucille Gelpi and Estelle Schroller.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine. A Sisters of St. Agnes prayer service at 5 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a Daughters of Isabella rosary at 6 p.m., and a vigil at 6:30 p.m., all at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hays Medical Center or Sisters of St. Agnes in care of the funeral home.
