      Mobridge Tribune February 7, 2007:
Edmund John Trautman always enjoyed working and he made a career of farming, later going into dairying. His work took him from North Dakota, Artas, Herreid, Watertown, California before returning to Herreid and then, as his health failed, into the Golden LivingCenter in Mobridge.
He died at the Golden LivingCenter in Mobridge on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, at the age of 92.
Edmund, the son of John and Sussana (Wetzel) Trautman, was born April 13, 1914, near Venturia, N.D. He attended a country school and began high school in Ashley, N.D. Life was a struggle in the draught and depression years and Edmund joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). He worked in the Salt Lake City, Utah, area while in the CCC. Later, he returned to Venturia.
On Dec. 26, 1937, Edmund was united in marriage to Ada Anna Schauer at the Evangelical United Brethern Church in Artas. They lived in Venturia for a short time and then moved to the family homestead near Artas where they were general farmers for 20 years. They then moved to Herreid for 10 years, where he worked as a farm hand in a milking operation.
In 1966, they moved to Madera, Calif., where he worked in a 2,000 head dairy operation until retiring in 1980. They returned to Herreid, where Ada died on March 3, 1982.
Edmund was then united in marriage to Mona Goodrich-Bassett on May 16, 1984, in the Eureka United Methodist Church. They made their home in Herreid in the summer and Watertown in the winter. Both entered nursing home care in May of 2002. Mona died Dec. 17, 2002.
Edmund had played in the Artas Band in his younger years.
Survivors include three sons, Clarence (Judy) Trautman of Pelican Rapids, Minn., LeRoy (Joann) Trautman of Mobridge and Allen (Helen) Trautman of Lincoln, N.D.; two daughters, Sandra (Emil) Matz of Eureka and Arlene Bossert of Mound City; two stepchildren, Marilyn and Robert; one sister-in-law, Frieda Trautman of Eureka; 12 grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, numerous step-great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his two wives, his parents, two sons, two daughters and eight brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services for Edmund were Friday, Feb. 2, at the Eureka United Methodist Church in Eureka were he had been a lifelong member.
Casketbearers were Clayton Trautman, Curtis Trautman, Clinton Trautman, Wayne Trautman, Jerry Bossert and Harold Bossert.
Burial was in the Artas City Cemetery under the direction of the Carlsen Funeral Home of Eureka.
Memorials were directed to the Eureka United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, or Artas Cemetery.
