George was educated in England. Å“He was a member of the Caroline Committee of Safety and entered the Continental army at the outbreak of the Revolution. As a lieutenant-colonel, he was aide-de-camp to General Wshington from August, 1775, to January, 1777. When he brought new of the victory over the Hessians to Congress, that body voted that a horse, properly caparisoned, be presented to him.Â
