Lloyd Axt, 87 McClusky died Sunday, December 29, 2013 at the Mandan Living Center, Mandan, ND.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 3, 2014 at McClusky Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.
Burial will be in McClusky City Cemetery.
Lloyd was born on February 6, 1926 on a farm near McClusky, North Dakota. He was the son of David H. and Annie Mary (Mauch) Axt. He was a graduate of the McClusky High School and taught school for one semester while he continued to farm with his father. He married Delores Alma Demke in Goodrich, ND on December 18, 1945. They moved to a farm northwest of McClusky where they lived until Lloyd's health started to fail in November 2005. Lloyd and Delores celebrated sixty-five years of marriage prior to her death on June 14, 2011.
Lloyd was a lifetime farmer and rancher, also working as the Sheridan County Tax Director, and an ASC surveyor. He was very active in his church and community. He was a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School superintendent and deacon in the Evangelical United Brethren in the Mercer and Goodrich Baptist churches. In the Gideon's International, he was a speaker and served as an officer. In the community, Lloyd was President of the Sheridan County Farm Bureau, served as a director of the local Medical Center, and was an officer and director for the McClusky Farmers Elevator. He was also a director for the McClusky Fire District and served on the county election board.
Lloyd's wife, children, their spouses and his grandchildren highly valued his Christian training, his sense of humor, his kindness and generosity and appreciation of all kinds of music; particularly, German hymns and polka music. Some of his grandchildren's fondest memories were cooking and learning to make various German dishes with him. He was a great joke and storyteller, often telling the stories of the threshing crews and the horses he raised.
Lloyd had been on dialysis for the past five years and had lived in Bismarck and later in the Mandan Care Center.
His survivors include his children, Ronald (Cindy) of Baltic, Ohio; Rose Marie Greer (John) of Houston, Texas; Dale (Cristy), of Fountain Hills, Arizona and Kevin (Sandi), of McClusky and Bismarck. Other survivors are his grandchildren: Dr. Jason Axt (Meridith) of Nashville, Tennessee; Bryan Brown (Colleen) of Houston, Texas; Joshua Axt (Kassandra) of Grand Forks, North Dakota; Shannon Petersen (Sven) of Katy, Texas; Elizabeth Axt of Baltic, Ohio and Charles Axt of Fountain Hills, Arizona; five great grandchildren (Natasha and Natalya Axt and Rhett and Rory Brown, and Nathaniel Axt). There will be two more great grandchildren this year (Baby girl Petersen, parents Sven and Shannon, in May, 2014 and Baby boy or girl Axt, parents Jason and Meridith in March, 2014. There are also four step grandchildren; eight step great grandchildren; and three siblings, LaVern Axt (Mary), Lorraine Kahler (Wesley) and Donald Axt (Joann).
He preceded in death by his wife, Delores; his parents, David and Annie Mary Axt; one brother, Arnold, two sisters, Olivia and Evangeline and one granddaughter, Kimberly. His family wishes to express their gratitude for the kindness shown by his caretakers at the Mandan Care Center and the Sanford Dialysis Center.
