Obituary of John R. Moon - Redwood Reveile - Saturday, January 28, 1893
Redwood Falls, Minnesota:
The death of Mr. John R. Moon occured at 2:30 o'clock on Thursday afternoon, at the home of his son, John Moon, in this city. He had been a sufferer of cancer of the stomach for the past six months, growing weaker day by day, but remained conscious until Thursday forenoon, death coming at the above hour and relieving him from futher suffering.
John R, Moon was born in Westboro, Clinton County, Ohio, in the year 1818, and would have been 75 years of age on next Wednesday. For seventy two years he lived a citizen of Westboro, coming to Redwood Falls in 1890 and has since lived with and cared for by his sons, David and John who reside here. He is a member of the Friends Church, a thoroughly good man and a kindest of fathers, and will ever be held in reverence by his children. For illustration as to the kindness of his nature it is said that he asked forgiveness of his step-son, W.R. Hockett a few hours before his death, whom he remembered of whipping when but five years old.
A Widow and five children survive him, one daughter and four sons. Mrs. Rachel Moon, now in her 78th year of age, Mrs. Sarah Pfisler of Westboro, Ohio, and W.R. Hockett, A.H., David and John Moon of this place.
During the short time Mr. Moon has resided at this place he has been known only as a kind and good old gentleman, and succeeded in making friends with all whom he came in contact. He will be missed by many and the community at large will join the members of the family in mourning his loss.
The funeral will be held from the residence of John Moon, at 11 o'clock to-day, when a short funeral service will be conducted by Rev. John Sinclair.
