John Emerson Allen, son of Henry and Lucy Allen, was born in Warren County, Iowa, Feb 1, 1872. He was the third of nine children. His parents moved to Kansas when he was a boy and remained there for seventeen years.
On Nov 23, 1910, Mr Allen married Miss Hulda Peterson of Ong and established his home in Edgar. Three children blessed this union; Claude, four years old; Clair, two years old; and Wiley, a baby of seven weeks.
For three years Mr Allen had been afflicted with an insidious disease and without warning the death messenger came. On Friday, July 20, 1917, Mr Allen quit work sometime in the forenoon and came home to rest, as he did not feel well. When his wife called him to dinner, life was extinct. Besides his wife and children, there survive him his parents, four sister and other relatives.
He was a Christian man, the son of Christian parents and interested in the things that make for righteousness. He was honest and upright in his dealings, true and faithful to all interests committed to his care and had a just and due regard for the rights and interests of others.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Presbyterian church, the Pastor Rev J C Christie officiating. The Odd Fellows of Edgar lodge and visiting brethren from Angus, Davenport and Ong attended in attended in a boy and had charge of the last rites at the Edgar cemetery.
The church was filled with friends and neighbors whose sympathy is extended to the loved ones so suddenly and sorely bereaved.
