Ethan A. Kreider, 76, formerly of 260 E. Main St., Campbelltown, died yesterday noon in the Harrisburg Hospital after being ill for several weeks. On Oct. 18, he and his wife, Esther Books Kreider, had moved to the Harrisburg Messiah Home. Born in Campbelltown, he was a son of the late Henry K. and Katie Hoffman Kreider. He served for 35 years as a cashier for the Campbelltown Bank before it merged with the Valley Trust Co. Bank. He was a director of the bank also. He was a member and former deacon of the Palmyra Brethren in Christ Church, a member of the Bible Fellowship Sunday school class and served for 10 years as the church's chairman for the Harrisburg Messiah Home. He was a member of the boards of the Campbelltown Water Co. and the United Christian Cemetery, Campbelltown. He was a member and former treasurer of the Palmyra Senior Citizens and for several years served as auditor for S. Londonderry Twp. Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons: Dr. Marlin B. Kreider, Boston, Mass.; H. Ellis Kreider, Palmyra; Harold N. Kreider, Columbus, Ohio; Ray L. Kreider, Baltimore, Md.; two daughters, Ruth, wife of Howard Landis, Grantham; Marian, wife of Melvin Hoch, Carlisle RD; 10 grandchildren; three sisters, Grace, wife of Joseph Stoner, East Berlin RD; Mary C. Ethan B. Books. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Theron M. Books who was 18 years of age. Died last Friday morning at the parents' residence. Maple street, Cleona, after a three weeks illness. Kidney trouble is given as cause of death. The young man was employed by his father in the planing mill at Cleona and was member of Brethren in Christ Church and regularly attended the Sunday school. Aside from parents he leaves two sisters & a brother, Olive and Orpha & Theodore, all at home; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Adam Brandt, Cleona; and grandmother Mrs. Jacob Books, also Cleona.

Born in Lebanon County, she was a daughter of the late Adam O. and Rosa Brubaker Brandt. She was a member of the Fairland Brethren in Christ Church, Cleona, and the Bible Class of the Sunday school. She and her husband celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary Jan. 9, 1971. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two daughters, Olive, wife of Harold Hostetter, Annville RD 1, and Orpha, wife of James Templin, Lebanon; a son, Theodore B., Cleona; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Books, Cleona; two daughters, Orpha, wife of James Templin, Lebanon, and Olive, wife of Harold Hostetter, Annville RD 1, with whom he lived; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jacob and Elmer, both of Cleona, and Bishop Titus Books, Annville RD1, also a sister, Esther, wife of Ethan Kreider, Campbelltown. Nathaniel, son of John and Barbara Berney, was born March 15, 1893 in Greeley county, Nebr. He grew to manhood there and was united in marriage to Edna L. Bandt on June 21, 1915. To this union was born nine children.
They homesteaded in Wolbach, Neb and then in Kimball. In 1920 they came to Phillips county and farmed northeast of Phillipsburg.
Soon after, he started working for the Rock Island Railroad until his retirement in 1933 due to a disability which left him an invalid until his death. Since his wife's death in 1956 he has made his home at Borum's Gentle Care.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John; one sister, Barbara, and his wife, Edna.

Those who are left to mourn are Amel J. Berney of Fresno, Calif., Lloyd Berney of Wichita, Kans, Barbara Bach of Wheatland, Wyo., Virgil Berney of Washington, Kan, Mary Berney Jones of Edmond, Kans., LaVerne Berney Foiles of Orange, Calif., Larry Berney of the U. S. Navy, Nathaniel Berney, Jr., and Clarence Berney of Phillipsburg; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday June 5 at 2 o'clock in the afternoon in the Miles Chapel, with the Rev. Harold E. Nelson officiating. Mrs. Mark Herman, Mrs. Frank Hahn and Miss Linava Hahn sang the hymns accompanied by Miss Anita Radloff.
Pallbearers were: George Ewing, Rev. Munvon, John Schermerhorn, Jess Bovce, Charles Faubion, and Wilbur Faubion. Interment was in the Fairview cemetery.

Word was received late Wednesday of the death of Mrs. Nathanial Berney of Phillipsburg, Kansas. Mrs. Edna Berney, 58, died of a heart attack enroute to a hospital Wednesday noon. Survivors include her husband and nine children. The deceased is a sister of Wm. Bandt and a sister-in-law of Mrs. Bertha Berney. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at Phillipsburg.
