ALBION — Norman G. “Norm” Bandt, 72, of Wolbach died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015, at Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wolbach with Vicar Marcia Dorn officiating. Inurnment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Wolbach. Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
He died with his wife by his side.
He was born on Oct. 6, 1942, in St. Paul to Percy and Mable (Smith) Bandt.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Bandt of Wolbach; children and spouses, Trisha and Bob Steffenmeier of Clarkson, Lonnie Bandt of York, Genevieve Houston of Stanton, Iowa, and Kenneth and Brenda Bandt of Grand Island; brother, Raymond Bandt of Fullerton; and sisters and brother-in-law, Marilyn Prentice of Wolbach and Marjorie and Elton Teter of Amherst.
He also leaves to cherish his memory 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Norm was a 1961 graduate of Wolbach High School.
He married Pam Schlueter on Dec. 14, 1963, at Palmer. To this union, Trisha, Lonnie and William were born. The couple lived in Palmer and later divorced.
He married Donna Hart on Aug. 19, 1978, in St. Paul. To this union Kenneth was born, and Norm became a stepfather to Genevieve. The couple lived in Palmer and later moved to Cedar Rapids. He worked as a feedlot manager for the Dinsdale family for 37 years. In 2008, he and Donna moved to Wolbach.
Norm was an avid Husker fan and enjoyed watching Western movies and TV shows. He also loved spending time with his grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, William Bandt; niece, Audrea Bandt; and a brother-in-law, Kenny Prentice.

William Patrick Bandt, son of Amel and Agnes Bandt, departed this life on the 12th day of April at the age of 64 years, 7 months and 17 days at the Howard County Community Hospital after suffering a heart ailment for almost two years.
He was born at Chambers, Nebraska on August 26, 1892. On July 4, 1914, he was married to Anna Freeland at Fullerton, Nebraska.
In 1917, he homesteaded with his family near Peetz, Colorado and from there he moved to Phillipsburg, Kansas. In 1926, he moved his family to Nebraska where the remainder of his life was spent in the Wolbach community.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Cecil, his wife, father and two sisters.
Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Agnes Bandt, Phillipsburg, Kansas; four sons, Percy, Overton and Harold, all of Wolbach and Marvel of Detroit, Michigan; nine grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Floyd Beach, Phillipsburg, Kansas; five brothers, Oliver of Washington State, Adoph and Amel of Phillipsburg, Kansas, Theodore of La Mesa, California, and Floyd of Calhan, Colorado, and many nieces and nephews.

FRED FREELAND, 78, CENTRAL CITY, DIES
After friends and neighbors became alarmed over the lack of activity about his home, the body of Fred H. Freeland, 78, was found Saturday morning, May 28, in his own bed at home just northeast of Central City. County Attorney Paul R. Morris said that death must have taken place several days prior to the discovery, because of the condition of the body.
Residing alone most of the time since the death of his wife on Friday, May 13, this year, Mr. Freeland had not been seen about his home for several days, consequently A.W. Scott and Eric Larson investigated Saturday morning. They were unable to gain entrance to the house, but looking into the house through a window they saw Freeland in his bed. After authorities had been notified and entrance to the house gained by forcing a door, they found that he had been dead for some time. Authorities stated that he apparently died a natural death, since there was no indication of foul play. Attorney Morris said no inquest was contemplated, so burial was made the day of the discovery.
Surviving Mr. Freeland are nine children: Frank and Louie of Palmer, Henry of Amelia, Nebr., Fred of Clarks, Edward of Central City, Mrs. Emma Farlee of Wolbach, Mrs. Anna Bandt of Cushing, Mrs. Lydia Gruber and Mrs. Ells Verplank of Palmer.
RITES FOR FRED H. FREELAND SUNDAY
Last rites for Fred H. Freeland, 78, prominent farmer who died at his home near Central City, Thursday, May 28, 1938, following a sudden heart attack, were held at the family home, Sunday afternoon, with Rev. J. Lohr, of this city officiating. Burial was in the Wiegert cemetery northeast of the city.
Mr. Freeland was born in Dunkirk, N.Y., March 12, 1860, and came to Nebraska in 1882. Two years later he was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Glause. His wife preceded him in death, on May 13, of this year. He was a faithful member of the English Lutheran church.
He is survived by five sons, Frank and Louis of Palmer; Henry, of Amelia, Fred of Clarks and Edward of Central City, and four daughters, Mrs. Emma Farlee, of Wolbach; Mrs. Anna Bandt, of Cushing; Mrs. Lydia Gruber and Mrs. Ella Verplank, of Palmer. A daughter, Clara, died in infancy.
Also surviving besides the children are two brothers, Henry Freeland of Dunkirk, N.Y. , and John C. Freeland, of this city; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Lechner, of Jamestown, N.Y., and thirty-three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Minnie Freeland died at Central City last Friday at the age of 71 years.
Funeral services were held at the Wiegert cemetery northwest of Grand Island Sunday afternoon, with Rev. L. Lohr officiating. Burial was made in the family lot.
Mrs. Freeland, nee Glause, was born in Erie county, New York, Oct. 9, 1866. At the age of 6 years she moved to Nebraska with her parents, who located on a farm near Grand Island. She was a faithful member of the Methodist church. On July 2, 1884 she was married to Fred Freeland.
Ten children were born, Frank and Louie of Palmer; Henry of Amelia; Fred of Clarks; Edward of Central City; Mrs. Emma Farlee of Wolbach; Mrs. Anna Bandt of Cushing; Mrs. Lydia Gruber and Mrs. Ella Verplank of Palmer; and one daughter, Clara who died in infancy.
Besides her husband and children she is survived by a brother, Phillip Glause of Grand Island, 33 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Herr Glause Sr., Vater von Phillip Glause, starb am Samstagnachmittag um zwei Uhr im Haus seines Sohnes nach kurzer Krankheit an Lungenfieber. Der Verstorbene war 73 Jahre alt und hinterlässt drei Kinder, die alle verheiratet sind, und mehrere Enkelkinder, die um ihn trauern. Seine Frau starb vor einigen Jahren vor ihm und damit wurde ein weiterer der ältesten Siedler in die Ewigkeit berufen. Die sterblichen Überreste wurden am Montagnachmittag auf dem Wiegert-Friedhof beigesetzt.
