William Tyner was born 9 April 1771, South Carolina; the son of Harris & Nancy (Adair) Tyner. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betsy" Hackleman abt 1793, South Carolina. To this union, 9 known children were born: Harris Tyner, Mary Ann (Tyner) Martin, Elijah Tyner, Richard Tyner, John N. Tyner, Malinda (Tyner) Stout, Solomon Tyner, Ezekiel Tyner, & Silas Tyner. Following the death of Elizabeth, he was united in marriage to Martha Jane Hamilton abt 1811, Franklin Co., Indiana. To this union, 5 known children were born: Jane (Tyner) Childers, Nancy (Tyner) Merrick, Martha Tyner, Elizabeth (Tyner) Lefforge, & William Jasper Tyner. Following Jane's death, he was united in marriage to Nancy Jane (Callahan) Back on 28 August 1842 in Decatur Co., Indiana. He engaged in Farming and served as a Baptist preacher. He died 18 September 1854, Decatur Co., Indiana.

Nancy Adair first married Harris Tyner. They were the parents of William Tyner, the old Baptist Minister who built Little Cedar Baptist Church south of Brookville. After the death of her first husband, she married Burrell Stevens. She came to Indiana with her children, probably about 1810. She is buried between her twin sons, James and John.
From records of Mary Beth Hughes-Worley: Nancy Jane Adair was born to James Robert Adair(1709) and Ann Ester McBride(1710-1781). She married Harrison 'Harris' Tyner. Their children include: Elijah (1760-1841); Harris (1765-1887); Richard (1770-1836); William Jasper (1771-1854); Mehitabel (1774-1848); E James (1776-?); Margaret (1778-1845); Susanna A (1775-1813); John and James were twins, born 17 August 1776. John died in 1822 and James died in 1823. Another resource file has her married after the death of Harris Tyner to Burrel Stevens. Their known children are Shadrick, Betsy and Susan Stevens. This list may be incomplete. It derives from pedigree resource files. This paragraph came from a descendant of Nancy's daughter Mehitabel (Hettie) who married Richard Kolb. Mehitabel is also buried at Lick Creek.

Sarah Tyner was John's mistress and lived in a house on one of his plantations. She bore him 3 children -- 2 boys and a girl. All of the children chose to keep the Tyner name, rather than take the Harris name.
John provided well for all three children in his will. He also provided for Sarah, leaving her a house and attached estate for her life time. His wife, Mildred, was also left a house and estate for her life time. At Mildred's death, everything went to the Tyner children. For that reason, it may be surmised that John and Mildred had no living children.
