Victor and Hazel had two daughters - Hazel Marie Steen (1913-1973) and Lucille Genevieve Steen (1920-2004).
Victor Steen was killed in a train accident while working on a railroad track. The following represents four separate newspaper articles on the accident in June 1922 from The Deming Headlight (Deming, New Mexico); The Petaluma Daily Morning Courier (Petaluma, California); The Petaluma Argus-Courier (Petaluma, California) and The Copper Era and Morenci Leader (Clifton, Arizona):
John Thomas, who was badly injured last Thursday when he was struck by an engine near Steins Pass, was brought to the Ladies’ Hospital for treatment and is now reported to be progressing favorably. Mr. Thomas was section foreman and his gang was working on the track when the train came along, but it is believed that the high wind drowned the noise of the train’s approach until it was too late for the crew to jump clear of the track. One of the gang, an American named V. V. Steen, was killed and two other laborers were injured.
Thursday afternoon Dr. M. M. Crocker, S. P. surgeon, received a wire from Steins which stated that one man had been killed and several others wounded by a freight engine going west about two miles the other side of Steins. The news was confirmed in a short time when a special car brought the wounded men to the S. P. hospital, where they were given proper medical attention and sent to the hospital at Tucson in the evening. The body of V. V. Steen, one of the section men, was brought in on No. 10 and an inquest developed the fact that a freight special was running west from Steins when it ran into a section crew.
Victor Steen, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Steen, who for many years resided on the Wilkie ranch on the Bodega road, met a tragic death at Steins, New Mexico, the first of the week, while working for the Southern Pacific Railroad Co., when two trains crashed together. His death was instantaneous. The body was shipped to Long Beach where the family is at present residing. The deceased was aged 32 years. His widow, who was formerly a Sebastopol resident, survives him with their two children.

Victor heiratete Ungewitter, Olive Hazel in 1911. Olive (Tochter von Ungewitter, William Preston und Donner, Mary Emma) wurde geboren am 1 Dez 1889 in Sebastopol, Sonoma County, California, USA; gestorben am 5 Mrz 1975 in Monmouth, Polk County, Oregon, USA. [Familienblatt] [Familientafel]

John Steen, former Escondidan, grandfather of Mrs. W. F. White, passed away at Bellflower Friday. He was 84 years old and had been in failing health for the past two years. Mrs. White and family returned Monday morning from Bellflower where they visited the bereaved family.
From the History of the State of California and an extended history of its southern coast counties by James Miller Guinn, Volume 1, Page 672 and 673:
Since 1894 Mr. Steen has been known as one of the most enthusiastic citizens of Long Beach, coming here in that year as a contractor and builder, a line of endeavor for which he has every qualification, if his success during the past twelve years can be taken as a basis for this conclusion. On the paternal side he is of English descent, his father, John J. Steen, having been born in Nottingham, England, whence he immigrated to the United States, locating first in Brooklyn, NY, then in Baltimore, MD, and still later in Brookfield, VA. It was in the latter city that his marriage occurred, uniting him with Martha Brooks, who was a native of the Old Dominion. From Virginia Mr. Steen and his wife removed to Missouri, from there to Rushville, Ohio and finally to Iowa, the death of Mrs. Steen occurring in the latter state. For a number of years Mr. Steen was a merchant in that state, but is now in Alberta, Canada, where he has accumulated large property holdings.
John B. Steen was born in Paulville, Adair County, MO, November 14, 1860, and was well educated in the common schools of the various localities in which his parents settled during his boyhood years. As a trade upon which to depend for future years, he chose that of carpenter, although for some time he was well known as a farmer and stock raiser in Chambers, Holt County, Neb. Relinquishing his interests in Nebraska in 1894, he that year came to Long Beach and gave his attention to his trade, the city at that time being in great need of competent workmen. At first he made a specialty of shingling contracts, and he has the credit of completing more houses with shingle roofs than any other one person in Long Beach. Later he built houses on his own responsibility and sold them, in addition to executing contracts for complete buildings for others. He still owns six residences, besides valuable property on Second street and elsewhere in the city.
In Lewis, Cass County, Iowa, John B. Steen was united in marriage with Bertha F. Van Ornam, June 19, 1889. She is the daughter of Edward C.D. and Ann M. (Doolittle) Van Ornam, an account of whom will be found elsewhere in this volume. Three children have blessed the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Steen, as follows: Victor V., Verna D.M. and Vera F. Mrs. Steen is a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church of Long Beach.

EDWARD C.D. VAN ORNAM. The first representative of the Van Ornam family in the United States was Great-grandfather Van Ornam, who, as may be surmised from the surname, was a native of Holland. Bringing with him all the sturdy qualities for which the Dutch as a nation are noted, he settled in New York state and reared his family amid the trying conditions which always prevail in a new country.
A grandson of this immigrant and the father of our subject, Daniel D. Van Ornam, was born in Willsboro, N.Y., where in his early manhood years he followed his trade of mason and builder. From there he later went to Buffalo, that state, and still later to Massachusetts, in both of which places he continued to work at his trade. Some time before his death he removed to the middle west, settling in Davenport, Iowa, and later in Cedar county, that state, where he died when in his fifty-seventh year.
As his wife he had chosen Harriet F. Ross, who was born in Massachusetts, the daughter of Peter Ross, the latter born in New York state of English descent. In the latter's family was another daughter, Olive, who became the wife of Mr. Burbank, by whom she has one son, Luther Burbank, who is known the world over as the Wizard of Horticulture. Mrs. Van Ornam survived her husband many years, and passed away at the home of her son Edward in Long Beach September 4, 1906, where she was in her ninety-fifth year. For many years she had been a member of the Methodist Church, and throughout her life she exemplified the teachings of the Christian religion.
Of the ten children born to Daniel D. and Harriet F. (Ross) Van Ornam, only two are now living, Edward C.D. and Ferris B., both of Long Beach.
Edward C.D. was born in Champlain, N.Y., August 8, 1836 and was reared in Buffalo until six years old, when the family removed to Massachusetts, settling in Worcester. He attended the public schools of that city for a time, but later returned to Buffalo, where he was a pupil in the public schools. By the time he had reached his sixteenth year, he had settled upon definite plans for his future career in the business world. From his father he learned the brick mason's and builder's trade, and in 1854, when the family removed to Davenport, Iowa, he worked side by side with his father in the execution of the many and important contracts which came to them. Among them may be mentioned the Cook & Sargent's marble block, the Episcopal Church of Davenport, besides numerous fine residences.
After he followed his trade continuously for about twenty years, he made a change in both occupation and location, in 1870 removing to Cass county, Iowa, where he purchased wild land and started out as a farmer and stock-raiser. His specialty, however, was the raising of fine stock, consisting principally of high-grade Short-horn Durham cattle. During the eleven years which he carried on stock-raising in Cass county, he was fairly successful, but a desire to resume his trade caused him to dispose of his interests there and remove to Lewis, that county. In that city and Omaha, Neb., whither he later removed, he carried on contracting until 1887, during the winter of that year coming to California and visiting many cities in various parts of the state, Long Beach being among the number.
He returned to Iowa in the following spring and again took up his trade but the middle states seemed less attractive than formerly and he determined to transfer his interests to the west. Coming to Long Beach in 1893 he at once began to take contracts for building and during the twelve years following erected many of the finest buildings in this city. He has erected a number of residences on his own account and later sold them. Since 1905 he has not been in active business and is now living retired in the enjoyment of the competency accumulated through many years of continued activity.
In Durant, Cedar county, Iowa, Mr. Van Ornam married Ann M. Doolittle, born in Wallingford, Conn., her father being Chester Doolittle, well known in that state, where his death occurred. Mrs. Van Ornam died in 1890 in Lewis, Iowa. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Van Ornam, as follows: Hattie M., the wife of Fred W. Snell, of Buena Park, Cal.; Luther L., who died in early childhood; Bertha F., Mrs. John B. Steen, of Long Beach; William W., also of this city; Edward E., who died when in his twenty-fourth year; Chester D., manager of the San Pedro Lumber Company at Huntington Beach; and Ralph R., who is in the employ of the Nofzinger Lumber Company, Los Angeles. In his church affiliations Mr. Van Ornam is a Presbyterian and politically he is a Republican.

Reed set out for California with their families. This is what was to become the Donner Party. The wagon train was trapped by snow in the Sierra Nevada near what is now Donner Lake. Of the nine members of Donner family, only three children survived the winter. George, his sister Mary and their half-brother Solomon Hook. Margaret J. Watson was born in March of 1845 in Missouri. Her mother was probably Mary Watson, born 1810-1815 in Tennessee. Her father, according to several Census' was born in Pennsylvania. Margaret also appears to have had at least one sibling, Caroline, born about 1847 in Missouri. Margaret appears to have lived with Mary Watson and Caroline in San Jose, Santa Clara County, California in 1860.
On 8 June 1862, George Jacob Donner, Donner Party survivor, married Margaret J. Watson in San Jose, California. Eight children were born to their union.
The 1870 Census, Fremont, Santa Clara County, California shows the family, including Mary Watson, born about 1810 in Tennessee.
The family settled in Analy in about 1873, which was the area of present day Sebastopol, Sonoma County, California. They particularly lived in the Spring Hill district.
There is conflicting information concerning the date of death for Margaret's husband, George Donner. Research is ongoing.
It is believed that Margaret's husband George may have suffered from tuberculosis.

Asa was the son of Deacon Edward and Rebecca (Reed) Johnson, Jr. of Woburn, Middlesex Co., Mass.
He married Tamar Whitcomb, Feb. 22, 1753 in Leominster, Worcester Co., Mass. and had 14 children.
Asa was in the Revolutionary War.
From the Rev. War Soldiers and Sailors, Vol. Vlll, in the war of the Rev. pg 815 - Johnson, Asa, Bolton, Private, Capt Artemas How's co. of militia, which marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775; discharged April 24, 1775; also, Private, Capt. Barnes's co., Col. Timothy Bigelow's Regt.; Continental Army pay accounts for service from June 1, 1779, to Dec 31, 1779; term, 3 years; also, Capt. Dow's co., Col. Bigelow's Regt.; Continental Army pay accounts for service from Jan. 1, 1780, to May 15, 1780; residence, Bolton.
Over the years this Asa Johnson has been mistaken for his Nephew, Asa Johnson, who was born April 6, 1759, and his Nephew is the one who died Aug. 13, 1820 in Leominster, Worcester Co., Mass., not this Asa Johnson, his Uncle.
Proof... From the Index of Deaths in the Mass. Centennial and Columbian Centennial 1784-1840 compiled by the American Antiquarian Society in Worcester, Mass. "Johnson, Asa, d. in Leominster, aged 61" (c.c. Aug 26, 1820) which = 1759.
Also you can see from Tamar's death notice below, that she was a "Widow" when she died, so again, her husband cannot be the one who died in 1820.
From the New England Palladium and Commercial Advertiser - March 31st. 1815
    "Death Notice Only"
"Died" - "In Leominster, Widow Tamar Johnson, aged 80. She was the first child born in Leominster and is the mother of 14 children, all now living."
