Mrs. Clara Wharton, 70, died at 71 North Johnson street at 3:50 p.m. Sunday following a heart attack.
She was born in Franklin, in Lee county, Iowa, January 22, 1870, the daughter of Gideon and Mary Thomas Miller.
She was married May 10, 1910, to R. W. Wharton. After their marriage they lived in St. Louis, Mo., and later in Wichita, Kan., before coming to Iowa City in 1927.
Mrs. Wharton was a member of the Evangelical and Reformed church at Franklin.
Survivors include her husband, three daughters, Shirley and Eileen Wharton of Iowa City, and Mrs. William Hildebrand of Marietta, Ga.; one son, Carroll, of Iowa City; one brother, Edward Miller of Donnellson, and three grandchildren.
Her parents and one sister preceded her in death.
Services will be held at the Oathout funeral chapel at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. A. E. Bergey will officiate. Burial will be in Memory Gardens.
