John W. Peck came to Kentucky in 1840, and to Cynthiana in 1845, where he has since resided until the present time.  His capital to begin life upon when he came to this town was a good education, sterling integrity, and indomitable energy.  He has been a benefactor to the poor of this pace, having given employment to them in mills, factories, and dry goods stores.  He was for years president of The Farmers Bank of Cynthiana.  In all and every capacity of business he has undertaken, he has never kept a grindstone in his office for the poor men whom he employed, although he has always been a great financier.  In old age he has retired from active life, and is able to indulge the scholarly tastes acquired in his youth.  Mr. Peck is a member of the Episcopalian Church, as were all of his ancestors.  John W. Peck married Nancy J. Veach.  Her father was David Veach was a son of Thomas Veach, who came here from Scotland at an early day.  The Broadwells came here from New Jersey, and settled on lands about three miles from this place.  They were of English ancestry.

Joseph Peck was a descendant of officers in the English army, scholars, bishops of the Established Church, and dignitaries of the Establishment.  That he was a descendant of a long and noble line his annals prove, and his coat-of-arms, which bears supporters.  From him descended John Peck, officer in the War of the Revolution, and his son, Hiram Peck, who was a soldier in the War of 1812.
