    John W. Gliem, a well-known farmer of the Arrington neighborhood, died on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 1899, and was buried yesterday at the Muscotah Cemetery.
    Mr. Gliem was born Dec. 5, 1817 in Saxe Weimar, Germany. He was married to Christena Schaeffer in Germany in 1841. Mrs. Gliem preceded him in death in 1895 (sic 1896).
    The Gliem family came to America with a large group of german immigrants. They landed in New Orleans and came up the Missippi (sic Mississippi) to Fort Des Moines, Iowa territory in 1850. They lived in that area until 1857 when the men purchased farm land at a land sale held in Ozawkie. Their land was located in the Arrington area.
    John Gliem was one of the oldest citizens of Arrington, being 83 years of age and having spent most of his life on that farm place.
    Mr. Gliem leaves seven married daughters to mourn him; Julia Eckert, Elizabeth Fassnacht, Margert Schiffbauer, Phebe Aikins, Sarah Hamon, Christine Lewis, and Louisa Aikins. Also several great grandchildren and also grandchildren. His nephew Ferdinand Gliem survives him. The latter is well known in Atchison having assisted in the County Clerk's office. He was also conspicuous last summer as a candidate for register of Deeds before the Republican Convention.
    A brother who accompanied John to America was Matthias Gliem, (born 1830-Germany), and brother Alfred Gliem (born in 1828 in Germany) remained in Iowa when John and Matthias came to Kansas.
    Rev. Nufer conducted the services at the Muscotah cemetery.

    Johannes heiratete Schaeffer, Christina in 1841.
