Oscar was raised at Zap, North Dakota andworked in the Zap Coal Mines from 1937 to 1944. He served in the US Navy in the South Pacific during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. He had six sons with his first wife Alma. After his marriage to Anna Hepper in 1970 he worked as a bricklayer in the Bismarck area for 27 years. In 1973 he began employment with Bismarck Public Schools, working for the Head Start and BECEP program as a bus driver and at Wachter Jr High as head custodian. He retired in 1984. Oscar was a life member of VFW and Bricklayer Union Local No 4.
